Vocal Music (Choir) Program Information
Students concentrating in voice will complete an intensive course of study in choral music. In addition to providing performance opportunities of choral repertoire study, students have the opportunity to participate in solo and small group voice assessments and county, state, and national honor choir events. Regular association with practicing professionals as well as multidisciplinary programming with other departments will be an important aspect of the vocal department’s curriculum. By providing a safe community of learners, it is the goal of the vocal music department to provide students with a solid foundation of music learning in order to prepare them for further studies in music.
Vocal Program 2024 Audition Requirements

Each student will participate in a live audition to include the following:

  • Each student will perform from memory one song representing the student’s current level.
  • A rhythmic sight-reading exercise evaluated for rhythmic accuracy. (optional)
  • A melodic sight-reading exercise evaluated for melodic accuracy.  (optional)
  • The student will be asked to do a simple listening assessment.  There is nothing to prepare for this portion of the audition.

Live accompaniment is suggested, as no accompanist will be provided. A recorded accompaniment is acceptable as long as it contains no vocalist singing the student’s part. A cappella performances are unacceptable for the audition.
