Course Offerings

Knights Orchestra (Advanced)

Students with previous orchestral experience demonstrate advanced-level knowledge of instrumental techniques, musical literacy, ensemble performance skills, and related musical knowledge through study, rehearsal, and performance of a variety of high-quality orchestral literature. Public performances may serve as a culmination of specific instructional goals. Students may be required to attend and/or participate in rehearsals and performances outside the school day to support, extend, and assess learning in the classroom. This course may also require students to obtain a musical instrument (e.g., borrow, rent, purchase) from an outside source.

Goals:

1. Tune open strings on their own.

2. Play two octave major and minor scales and arpeggios up to seven sharps and flats.

3. Play grade 2 and up orchestra repertoire musically and with proper technique.

4. Identify and define specific musical terms.

5. Perform shifts and vibrato.

6. Evaluate performances both as an individual and as a member of the orchestra.

7. Explain ways in which music relates to other areas of life.

8. Sight reading S.T.A.R.S.

Squire Orchestra (Intermediate-Advanced)

Students who have some previous orchestral experience focus on the development of instrumental technique, musical literacy, performance skills, and increasing aesthetic awareness through study, rehearsal, and performance of a variety of high-quality orchestra literature. Public performances may serve as a culmination of specific instructional goals. Students may be required to attend and/or participate in rehearsals and performances outside the school day to support, extend, and assess learning in the classroom. This course may also require students to obtain a musical instrument (e.g., borrow, rent, purchase) from an outside source.

Goals:

1. Tune open strings on their own.

2. Play one octave scales, arpeggios and thirds up to 7 sharps and 7 flats.

3. Perform grade 1-2 orchestra repertoire musically and with proper techniques.

4. Identify and define musical terms.

5. Evaluate performances both as an individual and as a member of the orchestra.

6. Explain ways in which music relates to other areas of life.

7. Sight reading S.T.A.R.S. 

Page Orchestra (Intermediate-Beginning)

Students who have at least one year of experience will study and perform high-quality beginning orchestra literature of diverse times and styles. Rehearsals focus on the development of critical listening skills, rudimentary string techniques, music literacy, ensemble skills, and aesthetic awareness. Public performances may serve as a culmination of specific instructional goals. Students may be required to attend and/or participate in rehearsals and performances outside the school day to support, extend, and assess learning in the classroom. Students in this class may need to obtain (e.g., borrow, rent, purchase) an instrument from an outside source.

Goals:

1. Tune open strings on their own.

2. Play one octave Major and minor scales and arpeggios

3. Perform grade ½ and 1 orchestra repertoire musically and with proper techniques.

4. Identify and define musical terms.

5. Evaluate performances both as an individual and as a member of the orchestra.

6. Explain ways in which music relates to other areas of life.

7. Sight reading S.T.A.R.S.
