Digital Design

The term "Digital Design" can have various uses, but these days it is very often applied to the Internet. The reasons are not hard to see. While in the days of dial-up Internet access, Web sites were very often exercises in desktop publishing, the growing availability of broadband access to domestic users has greatly increased what a web site can offer. Web sites looking to create maximum effect may combine 3D imaging, animation, video, and audio to create a true digital experience.

Digital Design is also a growth area in television and film, video gaming, and information technology. Students who go on to work in digital Design, whether for the Internet, video, or interactive digital, you need to have a strong grasp of the individual elements and the way in which they can be effectively combined.

Digital Design at North

Like other students in technology classes at North, students who study digital design have the opportunity to pursue a wide range of computer-based design courses using industry-leading software. With programs like Adobe InDesign CS4 and Adobe Photoshop CS4, North High students work hands-on with the same cutting-edge software as today's design professionals, which gives them a significant advantage as they move on to further their education or enter the work force.

Skills & Training

Students can study digital design on its own or as part of a more traditional media or Web design program. Students who continue to student digital design at the university level should aim to find a program with a wide variety of courses so that they can master the diverse skills of 3-D modeling & animation, digital video, audio, digital production, Web design, and more.

The greater the hands-on experience a student amasses, the better, since being able to co-ordinate the different strands of digital to produce effective all-round presentations is a key part of a digital design education.

Career Opportunities

High school and college students who have a strong background in digital design are entering into a fast-growing field of global content and communications. For able and well-educated students, the opportunities are simply astounding.

Students who pursue a career with a digital design component often start out in positions such as Web Site Developer, digital Project Manager, or work in motion graphics or graphics art.

Students with experience in digital design will also see potential employers such as web design and development companies, film and TV post-production houses, and video game companies.
